In some cases, it may only be necessary to replace the key, in others, the entire locking system. This is why the costs involved can differ. Please contact your liability insurance provider to discuss who will be liable for any associated costs.
Residents do indeed often store objects in stairwells or by their front doors, such as shoes, pushchairs or toys. However, all of these items really belong inside the apartment. This is due to the safety rules set out in the Swiss fire protection regulations. Under these regulations, it has to be possible to use stairwells as emergency exits and escape routes. They consequently have be kept clear and safe and must not be used for any purposes other than to access the apartments. It is only permitted to move very heavy objects into a rental property subject to prior approval. The maximum permitted weight is 200 kg/m2. Tip: Please consider taking out an insurance policy to protect against any damage, caused by water, for example, if you have a fish tank.
