Supporting social housing
More and more people are feeling the effects of the housing shortage in the Greater Zurich area. For people on low incomes, affordable housing is an especially scarce commodity. The situation remains challenging, which is why we have decided to make a donation to the Domicil foundation this year, in addition to the support we already provide.
Domicil has been building bridges between socially disadvantaged people and the housing market in Zurich and the surrounding area since 1994. And as the supply of affordable housing becomes increasingly scarce, the work that Domicil performs plays an increasingly key role. Partnering with the private housing market is crucial to give people on low incomes a chance to find affordable housing. As one of the largest property management companies in Switzerland, we are committed to working hand in hand with Domicil, a partnership that has already made 100 tenancies possible. We are delighted to be able to make a substantial contribution to the continuing development and work of the charitable foundation again this year.
Our commitment is also contributing to the increased efforts we are making in the area of social sustainability, which, alongside environmental issues, is becoming increasingly important. Livit helps property owners meet these demands, for instance, by conducting regular surveys to determine the needs of tenants. These and other measures are important in global sustainability rating systems such as GRESB.
For 30 years now, the Domicil foundation has been finding apartments for people in the city and canton of Zurich who would otherwise have no chance on their own in the housing market. Domicil is co-liable for the tenancies. This housing integration service is unique not only in the Zurich area but throughout Switzerland. The work Domicil performs provides security for both tenants and landlords. The Domicil service includes getting to know the potential tenants personally, checking their references and, if there is a mutual fit, showing them the apartment and the neighbourhood. If required, support is also provided during the tenancy.
We are delighted to be working with the Domicil foundation to not only help so many tenants find accommodation, but also to help them take a step towards independence and successfully transfer tenancy agreements to them.
